Old News: Twitter Bought Summize
Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008 Posted in Social Media, TweetDeck, Weblogs | No Comments »Last week, Twitter announced that they had found their perfect match in Summize, a Twitter search tool.
About a year ago Twitter introduced their own search tool called Track, which noone I know has
ever used. Summize created an extremely more useful and accurate Twitter search tool that allowed users to filter and search through all Tweets.
The official Twitter blog says:
We’re excited to announce that Twitter has acquired Summize—an
extraordinary search tool and an amazing group of engineers. All five
Summize engineers will move to San Francisco, CA and take jobs at
Twitter, Inc. This is an important step forward in the evolution of
Twitter as a service and as a company.
The new old Twitter Search Tool is available at http://search.twitter.com where anyone, even non-twitter members can search. Twitter seems to be going for a very simplistic, Google-esque look to their new search page. Personally I miss the Summize colors!
In sort of unrelated news, I discovered a great Twitter application that is still in beta called TweetDeck recently.
It is my favorite application so far because it lets you organize your Twitter friends into groups so that you can keep track of your feed more easily and not miss Tweets from your closest friends.
For those who want to boast their number of followers on Twitter check out @thecounter. This neat tool lets you check the popularity of yourself or other Twitter members and then post the number of followers to your blog or website. See how many followers you have at TwitterCounter.com.
Note: @thecounter posts Twitter updates every few seconds.
